Highest security level: Installation using OpenVPN:

Windows XP

1. Login to customer's area and choose Installer. This requires a username and password which you will receive by email after placing an order with us.
   
2. Download free OpenVPN GUI and install it on your PC. You may ignore any security warnings.
   
   
3. Start the program "OpenVPN GUI" on your desktop.
   
4. In the toolbar, you should now see a symbol for OpenVPN (two red screens). Right click on the symbol with the mouse, select your username (if necessary) and click on "Connect".
   
5. A successfull (= encrypted) VPN connection will be shown above the OpenVPN symbol. During a connection, the two little screens will be green.
   
6. If you see a firewall warning please click on "Unblock".
   
7. To make sure all of your Internet traffic now runs through the VPN, use our VPN Check.
8. To disconnect, just right click on the OpenVPN symbol and select "Disconnect".

Windows Vista

1. Login to customer's area and choose Installer. This requires a username and password which you will receive by email after placing an order with us.
   
2. Download free OpenVPN GUI and install it on your PC. You may ignore any security warnings.
   
   
3. Start the program "OpenVPN GUI" on your desktop.
   
4. If you are asked for, please give permission to continue.
   
5. In the toolbar, you should now see a symbol for OpenVPN (two red screens). Right click on the symbol with the mouse, select your username (if necessary) and click on "Connect".
   
6. A successfull (= encrypted) VPN connection will be shown above the OpenVPN symbol. During a connection, the two little screens will be green.
   
7. If you see a firewall warning please click on "Unblock".
   
8. To make sure all of your Internet traffic now runs through the VPN, use our VPN Check.
9. To disconnect, just right click on the OpenVPN symbol and select "Disconnect".

Macintosh OS X

1. Login to customer's area and choose Installer. This requires a username and password which you will receive by email after placing an order with us.
   
2. Download free OpenVPN GUI for Mac. Open the file and copy the contained program named "Tunnelblick" to the applications folder on your hard disk.
3. Download "Key Pack for Mac" from "customer's area", unzip it and move the 5 contained files to the "Library/openvpn" folder (under your Home folder). You may replace any exiting files in that directory.
4. Please keep in mind: you have to re-install "Key Pack" for every new username (for example if you were using a free demo account and have now upgraded to a regular account)
5. Start the program "Tunnelblick". In the toolbar (upper right corner of your screen) a closed tunnel will appear. Click on the tunnel and choose "Connect".
   
6. Enter your username/password. You may later change your password in "customer's area".
   
7. A successfull (= encrypted) VPN connection will be shown by an open tunnel symbol.
8. To make sure all of your Internet traffic now runs through the VPN, use our VPN Check.
9. To disconnect, just click on the tunnel symbol and choose "Disconnect".

Alternative installation using PPTP: Optionally, you may now use Hideway's anonymity service without the requirement to install OpenVPN - by simply using the PPTP-Protocol which is pre-installed in most operating systems.

This is mainly recommended for platforms which do not support OpenVPN (mobile phones, iPhone etc.) as OpenVPN is still providing the highest encryption level.
